HAGGiS Adventures - Compass Buster
Edinburgh
From Radical Travel |
Tour Itinerary
Blow your mind! Re-awaken your spirit! Our spectacular 5 day adventure through the amazing West Coast, Highlands and Isle of Skye is perfect for those with a week who want to leave the big cities and the tourist hordes behind and get out there among some of the world's most diverse and fabulous scenery.
From the dramatic Glencoe, to the stunning Isle of Skye, and onto the far North West, come Compass Busting with us as we explore Scotland's awesome mountains and Lochs, rich history and beautiful Highland villages.
Meet the locals and immerse yourself in our culture as we discover ancient castles, blood stained battlefields, majestic mountains and much, much more! Wonder and enjoy as we take short treks amongst ancient forests, to the base of free flowing waterfalls and along shimmering silver beaches. Of course you'll want to see some of the most famous things too, so we'll go Monster Hunting by Loch Ness, taste some excellent whisky, and even stay in a haunted Highland CASTLE!*
This is the most diverse backpacker's tour of Scotland and the most popular extended trip of its kind. Why? Well, we go off the beaten track to reach faraway places and stay in remote and amazing spots that other trips don't go near.
Day One Edinburgh – Oban*
Tearing you away from Europe's most beautiful capital, we'll visit the Wallace Monument at Stirling before heading on through the enchanted Trossachs - home of Rob Roy MacGregor. We'll travel through the mystical mountains of Glencoe (film site of 'Rob Roy') and along the banks of Loch Linnhe on our way to the seaside town of Oban.
Day Two Oban - Isle of Skye
Leaving Oban, we'll roam along wee country roads, as we head through to Glen Nevis, home of Ben Nevis - Britain's highest mountain - and the film location of 'Braveheart'. We'll also see Eilean Donan castle ('Highlander' & 'James Bond' castle). Then its over the sea to Skye! .
Day Three Isle of Skye - Carbisdale Castle*
Back onto the mainland, we'll travel into the lonely mountains of Torridon & Wester Ross. Around Inverness, we'll see Culloden Moor and the Clava Cairns standing stones. We may even find time to sample Scotland's national drink - whisky, at a working distillery! Tonight you will sleep in an opulent haunted Scottish Castle!
Day Four Carbisdale Castle - Loch Ness
Heading north towards Ullapool, today’s highlights include long sandy beaches, waterfalls and picturesque fishing villages. Then, it’s off to Loch Ness where, on the way, we might hug a tree in the Caledonian Pine Forest - one of the last remaining areas of indigenous pine in Scotland. Get your cameras ready as we see Urquhart Castle driving alongside Loch Ness - and keep that finger poised for Nessie sightings!
Day Five Loch Ness - Edinburgh
The last day! Exploring the Scottish Highlands for the final time & hearing even more stories of Scotland's ancient & rich culture. This day is the perfect end to your tour as we wind our way southwards from Loch Ness and drive through the Cairngorm Mountains (highest mountain range in Britain) before crossing over the spectacular Forth Bridge on our return to Edinburgh.
*Castle closed November through February - alternative arrangements are made for accommodation during this period.
