Highland Explorer - Loch Ness
Edinburgh
From Highland Explorer Tours |
Tour Itinerary
Heading north en route for Loch Ness, we enjoy stunning views of the Forth Railway Bridge and historic Loch Leven Castle. We enter The Highlands via Pitlochry, Big Tree Country, a land of forests, rivers and mountains. We view the dramatic pass of Killiecrankie, site of the famous 17th Century Jacobite battle. Our route climbs over the wild and lonely Drumochter Pass, through high mountains - watch out for the stags!
We then enter ‘Monarch of the Glen’ country, passing shimmering Loch Laggan, and on into the Great Glen. Arriving at Fort Augustus on the banks of Loch Ness, you have the opportunity to take a boat cruise on Loch Ness, visit the Clansman Centre or simply relax in this charming Highland village. Fort Augustus’s other main attraction is the Caledonian Canal with an impressive flight of locks.
Our return journey passes Fort William and Britain’s highest mountain, Ben Nevis, we continue through dramatic Glencoe, scene of the infamous massacre in 1692; over the wilds of Rannoch Moor and into Rob Roy country. Skirting Loch Lubnaig and the Trossachs we pass the imposing ramparts of Stirling Castle; and on to Edinburgh, arriving in the evening.
