MacBACKPACKERS Loch Ness Monster Weekend
Edinburgh
From MacBackpackers |
Tour Itinerary
Day One
On leaving the capital City via the new town, we cross over the River Forth, with views of the bridges on our way to the Kingdom of Fife and the ancient kingdom of the Picti. Our first stop however is just inside the Highland boundary at the picturesque village of Dunkeld. This villages' history goes way back to the early days of Christianity and it's spectacular cathedral is over • 700 years old.
From Dunkelds' old stone to the very old art of making whisky and a trip to Scotland’s smallest distillery. With a taste of the water of life and a tour of the distillery this stop will bring you to life. Then, a short stop for lunch at Pitlochry before heading north into the mountains and a visit to Killiekrankie, the site of the 1689 Jacobite uprising.
We continue with the same theme for the afternoon as we visit the haunting ruins of Ruthven Barracks, and finally at Inverness the battlefield of Culloden, the last stand of Bonnie Prince Charlies Highlanders. And after a day like that there is only one thing to do. Party on in the Capital of the Highlands, Inverness,
Day Two
On leaving Inverness we start our journey south by travelling the length of Loch Ness to Fort Augustus, to give everyone ample opportunity to spot Nessie. We continue down the Great Glen to Fort William to stock up on supplies, before taking the time for a walk in the spectacular Glen Coe, the site of the massacre of the MacDonalds, but, more importantly, and awe inspiring glen of enormous proportions.
From here we travel across Ranoch Moor towards Stirling, but no trip to the Highlands would be complete without a stop to feed and pet the Highlands most famous animal the Hairy Coo. Then it's on to Stirling, the site of the Great battles of William Wallace and Robert the Bruce and the History of the Wars of Independence.
In two days we can give you a real feel for history, culture and beauty of the Highlands, so much so that this tour will leave you wanting more.

About MacBackpackers:
MacBackpackers provide extremely high quality, fun and informal, fully guided tours of Scotland, designed for young, independent, budget-minded travellers.
As well as taking our guests to the top stops that Scotland has to offer — such as Loch Ness, Glen Coe, Rob Roy and 'Braveheart' country, and of course, the Isle of Skye, MacBackpackers tours thrive on the spontaneous, showing-off the 'real' character of Scotland. We pride ourselves on exceeding the expectations of our guests, maintaining a professional but relaxed approach and ensuring that every tour is entertaining, informative and utterly unique.
Ultimately, we love showing people our country, and our tours are designed to ensure that most of the day is spent off the bus. For your comfort we use 22 - 29 seat Mercedes coaches. All accommodation is automatically arranged and guaranteed for the duration of all of our tours.
Our highly successful Jump-on Jump-off tour operates seven days a week, all year round, providing a level of service unrivalled in Europe.
In keeping with our company ethos and to give back some of what we take from our bonnie country, we take part in a programme of environmental projects such as, erosion repair and reforestation, in conjunction with local groups.
MacBackpackers offer the ultimate authentic Scottish experience for those who don't buy into the bland faceless corporate ethos displayed by many other tour companies. We really do care, and we'll make sure your trip is unforgettable...
